This has been asked for maybe just 2 or 3 times over the last 20+ years. I can see how itmight be useful for tracking back in a fully loaded erp/mrp system but this is one of those things that we decided not to add to our MINI mrp. Sorry. | |

| By: Ken at DTS | Posted on: Nov 9 2023 at 11:23:09 AM | As we pack an assembly for shipping (say, assembly number "A-111, Revision 5"), we use its serial number (say, 222) to create a new Assembly with a Part Number of "SN-222". Then, we create a BOM for the "SN-222" assembly that has one item: "A-111, Revision 5" with a quantity of zero.
If the customer calls with a question about serial number 222, we can look up assembly "SN-222"'s BOM to determine that serial number 222 was shipped an instance of assembly "A-111, Revision 5".
If we want to know how many "A-111, Revision 5" assemblies have been shipped, then we can view assembly "A-111, Rev 5"'s "Used In" tab.
