Topic:   Shortage report not showing CSAS sub assembly w/o quantity in 'OnOrder' column

By: SimonQPosted on: Nov 16 2021 at 02:49:27 AM
I have created a works order for an assembly which contains sub assemblies. The main assembly is type ASSY and the sub assemblies are type CSAS.

I have created the works orders for the sub assemblies, which appear in the OnOrder column in the All Assemblies screen. However, when I view the shortage report for the main assembly works order, the OnOrder column for the sub assemblies shows zero.

Have I misunderstood something or should the sub assembly w/o quantities appear?

Thanks.
Simon.

Hello SimonQ.

I understand what you're saying. If an OnOrder column is visible it should contain the expected data which should include the work orders supplying the sub assemblies.

If I'm not mistaken you're talking about the shortage report that you can view from within a specific work order. (ie not the big shortage forecast that you get to via the reports menu)

I think the error is that the the OnOrder column shouldn't be visible at all in that work order shortage report.

That report is NOT a forecast so should it should not include future events, deliveries etc. It is only intended to answer the question:-

"With current OnHand inventory can I build this right now".

So it's ignoring all other work orders and all pending supply. It's supposed to just look at the current OnHand inventory to tell you if you have enough on hand to build that work order right now.

So. As I said. It's a mistake in the software to show the OnOrder column.

I think we need to take another look at that report.

Thanks for the reply.

It's would be a shame not to have the OnOrder column as it is a quick way to confirm that I have processed any shortages, as in ordered parts and raised works orders for sub assemblies.

Whist I get what you are saying, I am not sure I can see the downside of it being there.

One might think that knowing what's OnOrder, ie what's coming soon, would be helpful, But you need to accept that this report is not taking the requirements of any other work orders into consideration.

It would therefore be dangerous to take purchase orders into consideration because the quantities OnOrder are possibly already allocated to some other work order and therefore notavailable to the WO you're looking at.

The only way to do is a report that shows the OnOrder quantities AND quantities required other WorkOrders to get the whole picture. Such a report exists in the reports menu. Shortage Forecast.
